Sean Gorman, PhD
President and Founder
Sean Gorman founded FortiusOne in 2005 to bring advanced geospatial technologies to market. With over 10 years of experience at the forefront of the geospatial revolution as a researcher, practitioner, and entrepreneur at FortiusOne, Sean recognizes both the opportunities and challenges presented by the changing Web. Sean brings insight and innovation to the next generation of the Web and seeks to enable users of both GIS and the GeoWeb with solutions that marry the best of both worlds to create actionable intelligence and grow collective knowledge.
Prior to FortiusOne, Sean served as VP of R&D for GeoTel, a telecommunications mapping company, and Director of Strategy for iXOL, a Washington D.C. based incubator. Sean received his PhD from George Mason University as the Provost's High Potential Research Candidate and Fisher Prize recipient.
Sean has been featured around the world in media such as, Wired, Der Spiegel, ABC, Washington Post, Business 2.0 and CNN, and his expertise is sought after by organizations such as, the Critical Infrastructure Task Force and the Homeland Security Advisory Council. Sean was most recently awarded the BizNow on Business Top 35 under 35 honor, recognizing the Washington area's leading entrepreneurs.
Tony Bansal
Chief Financial Officer
Tony Bansal is a seasoned executive with extensive general management, strategic planning, and financial management experience with both privately held and public traded companies. He specializes in taking start-up companies to maturity by developing pragmatic go-to-market strategies, establishing sales networks, developing relationships with key industry players, recruiting an effective management team and instituting strict financial discipline. Over three years as the CEO of Digital Commerce Corporation, Mr. Bansal raised over $60 million in venture capital and other equity financing, grew the company from 5 persons to 500, and prepared the company for its IPO. At ICF Kaiser, International, Mr. Bansal was part of the team that grew the company from a small, boutique consulting firm to a publicly traded, diversified professional services company of over $1.3 billion in annual revenue. During his 14-year tenure at ICF Kaiser, Mr. Bansal held different portfolios, including VP of Finance, Rates, and Budgets, Chief Information Officer, and President of a first-tier subsidiary. Mr. Bansal also worked as VP of Business Development and Strategic Planning at Harris Corporation. Mr. Bansal holds a Masters of Science with Dean’s distinction from Carnegie Mellon University and an MBA from Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, India.
Andrew Turner
Chief Technology Officer
Andrew Turner is the co-founder of Mapufacture, a personalized geospatial search and aggregation platform, that was acquired by FortiusOne in August 2008 in order to combine real-time feeds with large GIS datasets. Andrew is focused on collaboration and user-generated content around location and time. He is actively involved in open-data projects such as OpenStreetMap and VoteReport, as well as open-source projects like Mapstraction and GeoPress. Andrew has consulted with companies such as MapQuest, the BBC, and the UN in developing their geospatial and community components and he regularly speaks at conferences on the benefits of open-source software and geospatial standards. Andrew wrote the O'Reilly shortcut "Introduction to Neogeography" and "Trends in Where2.0" business report in Spring 2008. He is also published in MacTech and Make magazine on his home-automation hacking.
Previously, Andrew was an aerospace engineer building airships, spacecraft and real-time immersive simulators. He received his B.S in Aerospace Engineering and Computer Science from the University of Virginia and his Masters from Virginia Tech.
Matt Madigan
Director, Operations
Matt Madigan has been with FortiusOne since its inception in 2005 and serves as the Director of Operations. Matt graduated from Santa Clara University with a degree in accounting and Italian and started his career as a financial analyst with HP. Subsequently, he worked with a non-profit as a project manager and business manager for both the Finance and Operations area. Immediately prior to joining FortiusOne, he founded, built and operated a start-up, e-commerce/government website and administrative system. Matt spends his early mornings coaching elite rowers, including several FortiusOne co-workers, at Potomac Boat Club. He is also a coach of the US National Rowing Team including the 2008 Olympic Team.
Michael Eckert
Vice President of Commercial Sales
Michael Eckert is a passionate executive level business development professional who comes to FortiusOne with over twenty years of progressive and diverse experience in sales, sales management and business development. As an early adopter of visual intelligence in 2002, Michael led a national sales team of a startup company in evangelizing the power of pushing geospatial information out of the GIS trenches and up to the board rooms of Fortune 500 CXO’s for more intelligent decision making. Michael developed a solutions selling training program for the sales organization to focus on utilities, national homebuilders, finance, associations and international development consultancies.
Prior to FortiusOne, Michael has held executive level sales positions with top tier IT and management consultancies such as Perot Systems, James Martin, Keane and Transition Partners. His success is attributed to his consultative selling style when working with C-level executives in areas such as IT Strategic Planning, ERP/CRM/EPM selection and implementation, PMO development among other offerings.
